Founded
in 2007, Kamukunji Youth Congress (KYC) is a vibrant youth initiative that
seeks to improve the position and conditions of the youth especially in the
urban slums. Kamukunji Youth Congress (KYC) is an open and voluntary membership
movement with membership from three the former Nairobi North District namely
Kamukunji, Kasarani and Starehe. Situated and with a physical office in Pompano
slums, Kamukunji District, Nairobi county.
The
founding mission of the youth congress was and still remains “to provide a
shared platform for youth to ensure the improvement of their position and
condition and address the socio, economic political disorders that continue to
subject them to desperation, injustices and inhuman living conditions”.
Throughout their work, the youth congress has endeavored to promote and enable
youth leadership, participation and collective action in the continuum of good
governance, transformation and as means for youth and development.
The
youth congress goal is to widen the requisite spaces that help spaces that
helps to address injustices and thus promotes youth identity, dignity and
acknowledges their different socio, economic and political needs.
The movement is constituted by 20 strong registered groups and networks
with 5 strong community networks who share the same youth ideology.
